Let there be Light, Love and Laughter at Titanic Hotel Belfast!

Erin and Macaulay's Humanist wedding ceremony in May 2024 encapsulate all three!

Erin and Macaulay are a light-hearted couple who value laughter, fun, their dog India, family and not taking themselves too seriously! With this in mind we worked together to create a ceremony that celebrated family, shared their story and felt like a meaningful yet fun party starter! (Yes you can have it all!!!)

They chose to have their ceremony in the Drawing Room of the Titanic Hotel Belfast. With its vaulted ceilings, solid wood floor and all of the natural light one could ask for, it was a beautiful, spacious yet intimate setting for their ceremony.

So where did it all begin??? Erin and Macaulay first met at the tender ages of 14 and 15 when at school together. I won’t lie, first impressions weren’t great with Macaulay not really remembering Erin at all and Erin telling her friend Sara, 'I would never go out with Macaulay, he’s stinking!' OUCH! Over the next couple of years, opinions changed and Macaulay’s cheeky smile and banter grew on Erin. Macaulay finally paid attention to the beautiful Erin enjoying her humour when hanging out together. Erin invited Macaulay to a friend’s party and from there they began going for walks and ice cream around Bangor. They don't remember an official first date as they were so young but Macaulay did ask Erin to be his girlfriend via text. Erin said it felt like passing a job interview as the message said "I have come to the conclusion, it’s time for us to take the official step" and they have officially been young loves dream since 2013!

Family and friends are incredibly important to Macaulay and Erin, they love spending time with them and are so grateful to have a secure and supportive community around them. To honour that bond, Macaulay and Erin's mums joined them to complete a hand tying or handfasting ritual symbolising the joining of two families. A close family friend of Erin's also wrote a beautiful and personal poem for them which she shared during the ceremony.

Erin and Macaulay were keen to write their own vows but were a liiiiittttle apprehensive with how to start. Using my Vow Writing Workshop guide, they worked on them separately, checking in with me for support and guidance. After a couple of refinements, both felt empowered, confident and happy to delivery their surprise personal vows to each other during the ceremony. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

'I have called you many things over the last 11 years, but I can’t wait to call you my husband.' - Erin
